Champagne wisdom, Part Deux

It’s a great time to think about Champagne (which for me means any day that ends in “y”). I shared a few pearls last week on bubbles from northeastern France, and here are some more, from (mostly) lesser-known folks:

• “I drink Champagne when I’m happy and when I’m sad. Sometimes I drink it when I’m alone. When I have company I consider it obligatory. I trifle with it if I’m not hungry and drink it when I am. Otherwise I never touch it “” unless I’m thirsty.” “” Madame Lilly Bollinger

• “Champagne, the great civilizer.” “” Talleyrand (left)

• “Champagne arouses the senses and produces a cheerfulness which flashes through the company like a spark of electricity.” “” Charles Baudelaire

• “Champagne is bottled sunlight.” “” Lord Thomson of Cardington

• “Gentlemen, in the little moment that remains between the crisis and the catastrophe, we may as well drink a glass of Champagne.” “” Paul Claudel

• “A good party is where you enjoy good people … and they taste even better with Champagne.” “” Wilson Mizner
